Instructor: Tari Zarka, AAOTE's founder with a 21-year tenure in professional, creative entrepreneurialism.
Learn the basics of flameworking an small glass marble. Tari will begin the session by demonstrating the process (about 45 minutes of demo time). Then the participant will have their turn at the torch working to replicate the demonstration with Tari at their side ready to step in to help finish each piece as-needed (participant will be at the torch about 45-60 minutes).
Please know the mini marble will have to be picked up at a later date as each piece of glass must be annealed several hours in the kiln before being ready to go with their person.
Classes at AAOTE are designed to foster an ignited creative spirit which can help with intuitive development, problem solving, resourcefulness, and tenacity at work and in daily life.
We will discuss the creative arts to explore how attempting to learn a new craft or skill can improve our ability to more gracefully flow with the inevitable learning curves and changes of life and the workplace.
Through our time on the torch we seek to ignite a revived drive to see through distractions to the bigger picture, engage participant in new perspective of creative flow, learning to access it to accelerate fluidity and problem solving abilities.
When working with glass it is imperative to remain focused on the piece regardless of outside distractions. Since there is no ability to put a piece of half-morphed glass down to come back to it, we must problem solve and move on-the-fly while in a place of uncertainty and unknown, at the helm of a 4,000 degree torch flame holding semi-molten glass.
This process can be an engaging and fun way to explore the world of creative process with a new, exciting medium.
Do know the glass studio is not heated or air conditioned. Dress in natural fibers, no polyester or other meltable clothing, and dress according to the outside climate. It could be hot, it could be cold, somedays it's actually perfect temp.
